Frequently Asked Questions

What is the problem?

Probabl
y the most frequently asked question by those not afflicted, but the answer is simple:

  • You have a passion for Corvettes, but do not own one.....THAT is a problem!
  • You have one Corvette, but all your friends have more.....That is a problem!
  • You have more Corvettes than you have garage space.....That is a problem!

We know of one member who has a 3 bay garage and only 2 Corvettes, yet his wife does not see that as a problem.

We see it as TWO problems!

How did Corvettes Anonymous Come About?

Several people have asked this question.   Actually the idea and philosophy had
been jelling for quite some time
.  There is a small cadre of Founding Members who thoroughly enjoy sharing time and stories together.

Some of us were members of different clubs while others preferred a more unstructured approach to their hobby.

The common link is that we wanted to be able to enjoy each other's company without the rivalry that sometimes exists between competing clubs.

We began taking impromptu cruises to
various "mixed" car shows and other
outings.

The  name Corvettes Anonymous came l
ike a bolt of lightning during the September 2006 Corvettes In Venice show, sponsored by Venice Florida Corvettes.

After the dinner party, several enthusiasts were sitting around spinning yarns about the Corvettes they once owned, have now, wish they owned, and of course, the ones that got away.

Because that evening was the first time many of them had met, someone remarked that the next day’s show was going to be spectacular because the evening’s party had gone a long way to let folks meet one another.

When everyone agreed, someone else suggested that it would be really cool to belong to a Corvette Association, walk into a restaurant far from home and find a total stranger wearing something designating that he or she was also a member.

What a way to break the ice!

A few minutes later one of the group, who had previously been known only through the Internet, very dramatically stood up, pushed back his chair, hung his head, and said:

Hello. My name is Pedro, and I have a problem!”

There was a huge round of laughter,
but in the blink of an eye,
Corvettes Anonymous

was born!

Today when members meet, the second question might be "Where are you from?".
But the first question is almost always.....

 "What is your membership number?"

Since that September evening in 2006 and from that group of strangers and friends, Corvettes Anonymous has rapidly grown to having NEARLY 800 members scattered across 42 states, + Canada, UK, Germany, France, Puerto Rico, Australia, and New Zealand.  The best part is  ...

It's All About The Joke!!

Addictions of any kind are a serious matter.  By your name, aren't you taking that a bit lightly?

Each member of
Corvettes Anonymous is acutely aware of that issue.  It is never our intent to take any debilitating addiction lightly or in jest.

We also believe that whether one's hobby is collecting stamps, model railroading or in this case Corvettes, there is a positive side ~ which is the joy and camaraderie to be shared with others.

It is that part of "The Problem" to which Corvettes Anonymous is referring and wants to promote.

Do you have meetings, Officers, etc.?  How do I become a member?

No.  There are no dues or fees for Corvettes Anonymous.  The only requirement for membership is a genuine love for the Corvette brand and its history.  In actuality, if you get the joke, you are practically a member by definition!

With the possible exception of our "Pharmacist", there are no officers.

So what’s it really all about?

Corvettes Anonymous is first and foremost about having fun and about being able to poke fun at ourselves and each other.  For the majority of members it is ~ and should be ~ about the “Tug On The Leg”
more so than “The Tug On The Heart”.

It is about wearing or displaying the logo and watching the reaction on someone's face the first time they “Get It”!

That is especially gratifying when the other person doesn’t even own a Corvette!

If you don't have meetings or Officers, how does it work?

It works by admitting that we are powerless over our passion for Corvettes and that at times our enthusiasm can get "just a tad out of control".   (Usually in the mind of a family member or close friend who does not quite share the passion.)

Some of us thought there was an easier way to cure our affliction.  We tried other brands or stayed away from Corvette ownership for long periods of time....only to realize that .......

There Is No Cure But There Is
                                          Corvettes Anonymous.

Each member has earned the privilege of being able to provide understanding and comfort to those who have also come to the same realization.

We have an obligation to listen knowingly while the new person reveals the extent of their problem.  When it is appropriate, we carry the message of our own experiences, embellishing them only to the degree that doing so helps others better understand.

Then what is the Pharmacist all about?

Our Pharmacist is authorized by Corvettes Anonymous and C.A.R. E. I.  (
Corvettes Anonymous Rehabilitation and Encouragement Institute) to write and dispense our various "medications".

These include an exceptionally wide variety of high quality apparel and accessory items, all designed to help you feel better about yourself and to help you proudly announce that you are a member of Corvettes Anonymous.
